EAR HEALTH & HEARING HEALTH CLINIC

Clearer hearing. Safer ear care. Provided by your local pharmacy team.

Modern ear care with quick, practical support — available across GREATER Glasgow & Clyde, Lanarkshire, PAISLEY and the Highlands

Blocked ears, reduced hearing, ringing, itchiness or a “full” feeling can be frustrating — and it often comes down to wax build-up or irritation in the ear canal. The good news is that many ear concerns can be assessed quickly and safely with the right equipment and a trained clinician.

Amiry & Gilbride Pharmacy, our Ear Health Clinic uses modern ear examination technology and safe wax-removal techniques (including microsuction where appropriate) to help you get clarity and comfort back — without the long wait.

Ear health check

A clear look inside your ears is the best starting point. We’ll examine the ear canal and eardrum using specialist equipment, explain what we can see, and talk through the most appropriate next step.

Microsuction ear wax removal

Microsuction is a gentle, water-free method of removing wax using low-pressure suction under direct visual guidance. It’s designed to be precise, controlled, and comfortable — and many people notice an immediate improvement.

Ear & hearing assessment

If you’re experiencing ongoing hearing difficulty, we can carry out additional checks to build a clearer understanding of what may be contributing — and what to do next.

Aftercare advice and next steps

You’ll leave with clear guidance — whether that’s simple aftercare, prevention tips, or recommendations for follow-up support (including signposting to GP or onward referral routes if needed).

EAR CARE TIPS

  • Avoid cotton buds — they often push wax deeper and can irritate the canal.

  • Soften wax before your appointment (see prep guidance below) to make removal easier.

  • Go easy with earbuds/headphones and keep volumes moderate where possible.

  • If you use hearing aids, regular ear checks can help keep them working effectively.

  • Don’t ignore persistent symptoms such as pain, discharge, or sudden hearing changes.

FAQs

If wax build-up is suspected, softening drops can help. As a general guide, use ear drops 1–2 times daily for 3–5 days before your appointment (unless you’ve been told not to).

Microsuction is a water-free technique carried out under direct visual guidance. Many people prefer it because it’s controlled and precise.

Most people find it comfortable. You may notice some noise and mild odd sensations, but pain is uncommon. Tell us if you’ve had a recent ear infection or significant tenderness.

Often, wax can be cleared in a single visit. If wax is very impacted, or if your ears are sensitive, we’ll talk you through the safest approach.

If reduced hearing is caused by wax blockage, removal can help significantly. If symptoms persist, we’ll advise on appropriate next steps.

It varies. Some people rarely need it, while others (including hearing-aid users) may benefit from regular checks. We’ll advise based on your history and what we see.

If you have sudden hearing loss, severe pain, significant swelling, bleeding, discharge, fever, or feel acutely unwell, seek urgent medical advice (NHS support/GP/urgent care as appropriate).
