FEMALE HORMONES TEST

A USEFUL TOOL IN MENSTRUAL AND FERTILITY HEALTH

Female hormones play a significant role in fertility and menstrual cycles, but also our mood, weight, energy levels and general well-being.

Although hormone levels can vary throughout a cycle, an imbalance can affect female health in a variety of ways.

Our friendly, local, pharmacy team can check hormone levels, with a quick, simple, and straightforward fingertip blood test. Our fully qualified team can then send the sample across to the laboratory, with your results arriving back within 7 days.

Testing Information:

. Samples are usually taken on day 3 of your menstrual cycle

. Results are provided for 7 different key hormone markers

. Results are in an easy to read, hospital-standard report

. Reports will indicate whether further guidance should be sought from your GP

. Testing is unsuitable for anyone on a course of hormonal contraception, or hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

. Testing is suitable for anyone aged 20+ years, although for those concerned with menopausal status, a menopause specific test is available and would be better suited

OPTIMISE YOUR HEALTH

Understanding our hormonal health empowers us to make choices and lifestyle changes that enable us to live happier, healthier, lives. We can establish what is affecting our female health and take steps to help ourselves.

With a quick and convenient test, we can take decisive action as to whether we require further medical intervention, or we can self-manage symptoms and live a more mindful lifestyle.

Quick and simple to carry out, with no lengthy wait for results.

Female hormone testing is also a useful tool to track our hormone levels over a period of time, as we become familiar with our baseline results and can see changes that occur over the course of a cycle or as we age.

Why is testing useful?

Hormone level checks are useful for a variety of reasons. Particularly for those:

. Experiencing irregular periods

. Suffering from mood swings, acne, or low energy levels

. Wondering about their menopause status

. Concerned about their fertility levels and ability to conceive

. Curious about their hormonal health in general

. Wanting to rule out factors that may be playing a part in their general health and wellbeing.

What levels are tested?

LH & FSH – Responsible for fertility, menstrual cycle, and the normal functioning of ovaries. These hormones are produced by the pituitary gland in the brain.

Oestradiol – The main female sex hormone

(Refer to our terms and conditions regarding finger-tip blood collection in establishing levels – In some cases, it can result in 20% lower Oestradiol levels than when taken by venous collection)

Testosterone – Present in lower amounts than in males, and decreases gradually with age.

Sex-Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) – A key protein that binds sex hormones as they circulate. This level is important in determining how active hormone levels are and what hormones are actually in use.

Free Androgen Index (FAI) – The amount of active testosterone in circulation.
