Male hormones test

Are you concerned about having low testosterone?

Low sex drive? Mood changes? Less muscle mass and energy? Low testosterone may not always be the case, but a simple finger-prick blood test can clear up any doubts and help get you back to your normal self again.

Knowing about your health is always better than worrying about it, and our team will ensure your comfort during testing. A few minutes of consulting and a short wait for results is all it takes, and we’ll be there for you every step of the way. Results are usually ready within 7 days.

Take control of your health with us

Low testosterone may not always be the reason for your symptoms, but getting tested can also help identify other potential hormone problems. Testosterone is the male sex hormone, so naturally gets the most attention in male health concerns, but oestrogen levels are also important.

Having oestrogen levels too high or low may impact your bone health, causing joint troubles, and can also affect erectile function and sperm production. By testing with us, we can check for all sorts of other hormonal issues, and help you take steps towards positive change. It’s also worth checking your hormone levels regularly to see how they change with age.

What we test for

LH and FSH – produced by the pituitary gland in the brain, these hormones regulate the menstrual cycle and the functions of the ovaries in women. In men, FSH stimulates sperm production, while LH stimulates testosterone production, two highly important factors in men’s health.

Testosterone – the male sex hormone, responsible for your libido (or sex drive) levels, fertility, muscle mass, mood, and energy levels.

Oestradiol – a specific type of oestrogen and the main female sex hormone. Note: recent studies have shown 20% lower oestradiol results from finger-prick blood collection compared to venous full blood draws. Refer to our Terms and Conditions for more information on this.

Prolactin – also from the pituitary gland, this hormone controls milk production in women, but is important for many facets of male health. This includes sperm production and forming new neurons.

Albumin and sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG) – SHBG are proteins that bind testosterone as it is circulating within your blood. By testing for this, we can see how much of your testosterone is actually active or available for use.

Free androgen index (FAI) and free testosterone – reiterating what our SHBG tests look for, these results let us gauge the ‘bioavailability’ of your testosterone, which is far more valuable than testosterone alone in understanding your hormone levels.

Take steps to change your life for the better

In many instances, hormonal issues are attributable to lifestyle. Weight gain, stress, inactivity, or diet, for example, can all play a part in your hormone levels. Our blood tests will help us distinguish these factors from the non-lifestyle factors, such as underlying health conditions.

Getting tested will help identify the true cause of your symptoms and help put your mind at ease.

If your hormonal issues stem from your lifestyle, we’ll provide guidance on how to improve your health.
