What
Our Mole Scanning Service lets you have any worrying moles or skin lesions checked quickly and safely at your local Amiry & Gilbride Pharmacy.
In a short appointment, a trained member of our team takes high-quality, close-up images of your mole using a medical-grade dermatoscope. These are securely sent to Map My Mole, a UK service where consultant dermatologists review your case.
You’ll then receive a clear written report explaining whether the mole appears non-cancerous or needs further medical investigation.
Why
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, and outcomes are usually much better when it’s found early. Many people:
-
Worry about a mole that is changing
-
Find it difficult to get a prompt GP or dermatology appointment
-
Aren’t sure whether a mole is safe or needs checking
Our Mole Scanning Service offers:
-
Quick reassurance when everything looks normal
-
Early flagging of concerns if something needs further assessment
-
Convenient access in a local community pharmacy
It doesn’t replace a doctor or hospital appointment, but it helps you decide what to do next, sooner.

FAQs
Is this a skin cancer diagnosis?
No. The Mole Scanning Service provides screening and expert assessment, not a full medical diagnosis.
A UK consultant dermatologist reviews your images and gives an opinion on whether the mole appears benign or needs further medical investigation. If there is any concern, you’ll be advised to see your GP or another specialist for diagnosis and treatment.
How long do results take?
Most patients receive their dermatologist report within 24–48 hours of their images being uploaded.
We’ll contact you as soon as we have the report, or you may receive it directly depending on how the service is set up at your chosen branch.
How many moles can I have checked?
The service is designed for a small number of specific moles or lesions that you’re worried about. It is not a full-body mole mapping service.
If you need a comprehensive, whole-body skin check, a hospital or specialist dermatology clinic may be more suitable.
What happens if my mole looks suspicious?
If the dermatologist’s report suggests your mole may be suspicious or needs further investigation:
-
We will explain the report to you
-
You will be advised to contact your GP or another appropriate clinician promptly
-
You can share the written report to support faster referral or further assessment
If you have urgent symptoms (such as rapidly changing or bleeding lesions or feeling generally very unwell), please seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for a pharmacy appointment.
Are my images handled securely?
Yes. Images are captured with medical-grade dermatoscopy equipment and uploaded via the Map My Mole app using secure, encrypted systems. Your personal details and images are handled in line with data protection and privacy requirements.
Does this replace seeing my GP or a dermatologist?
No. The service is intended to complement NHS or private medical care, not replace it.
-
If your mole appears benign, the report can offer reassurance
-
If any concern is raised, it guides you to seek further medical attention, and we can help you understand the recommended next steps
If you have already been told that you need urgent medical assessment, please follow that advice and do not delay by booking a pharmacy scan first.
How much does it cost?
This is a private service, and there is a fee for each appointment.
