WHY GET TESTED?
Although quite common in women, thyroid disorders can affect men too. They are hard to diagnose and are sometimes initially misdiagnosed. Underactive thyroids can lead to weight gain, tiredness, depression, sensitivity to cold temperatures and hair loss due to the thyroid gland not producing enough hormones. If your thyroid is overactive, however, that means that it is producing too many hormones, and it can cause symptoms including anxiety, weight loss, mood swings, muscle weakness, itchiness, a frequent need to urinate, difficulty sleeping and sensitivity to heat.
Our pharmacists can carry out a simple blood test to check your thyroid is working properly if you believe you may have a thyroid disorder. Autoimmune disorders, genetic factors or family history and even certain medications can all cause thyroid dysfunction.
