Overview

This test uses both a blood sample and a vaginal swab to check for a variety of common infections, providing a quick and straightforward method for assessing your sexual health.

Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be detected through vaginal swabs or blood tests. Some STIs may not show any symptoms but, if left untreated, could lead to more serious health issues.

How does the test work?

A blood test is one of the most effective ways to detect hidden health issues or to keep track of ongoing conditions.

Whether you are actively managing a current health condition, feeling concerned about potential medical issues, or simply have a curiosity about your overall wellbeing, a blood test provides a quick, cost-effective, and straightforward method to gain valuable insights and take control of your health. It empowers you to make informed decisions and proactively address any concerns, helping you stay on top of your health journey.

We provide in-store testing to ensure the process is as easy, convenient, and stress-free as possible.

Results are typically available within 5 to 7 days.

Please note that blood tests should not replace a consultation with a doctor, especially if you are experiencing any symptoms. Diagnosis or treatment should only begin after seeking advice from a healthcare professional.

What do we test for?

Sexual health (6 biomarkers)

Most STIs can be identified using blood or urine samples. Some infections may not show symptoms but, if left untreated, could lead to more serious complications.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection which is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and it is currently the most common STI in the UK. A significant number of people with chlamydia may not experience any symptoms at all, earning it the nickname “The Silent Epidemic.” While chlamydia is easily treatable, if it is neglected, it can result in severe reproductive health issues. If you test positive, it is crucial to inform your partner(s) so that they can also be tested and, if necessary, treated.

Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection which is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Without proper treatment, it can lead to serious reproductive issues and other health complications.

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg)

The Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg) is produced by the Hepatitis B virus, which causes an infection of the liver. The virus is transmitted through contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected individual. The HBsAg test is used to determine whether a person is currently contagious.

Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCAg)

Hepatitis C Antibodies (HCAg) are created by the immune system following exposure to the Hepatitis C virus, which leads to a liver infection. The virus is spread through contact with the blood of an infected individual. The HCAg test helps determine if someone has been exposed to Hepatitis C in the past.

HIV 1&2 Antibodies

HIV 1&2 Antibodies are produced by the immune system in response to exposure to the HIV virus. HIV attacks the immune system, compromising the body’s ability to fight off infections and diseases. The HIV 1&2 antibodies test detects the presence of these antibodies, indicating whether the body is responding to an HIV infection.

Syphilis IgM/IgG

The immune system produces Syphilis IgM/IgG antibodies in response to syphilis infection. IgM antibodies are the body’s initial reaction, indicating an active infection, while IgG antibodies develop after exposure and signify the long-term immune response that the body creates to syphilis.

Frequently asked questions

Am I at risk of contracting chlamydia?

Anyone who is sexually active can contract chlamydia through unprotected vaginal sex, anal sex, or oral sex. Young people who are sexually active face an even higher risk. Additionally, gay, bisexual, and other men who engage in sex with men are also at risk, as chlamydia can be transmitted through both oral and anal sex.

How common are chlamydia and gonorrhoea?

Chlamydia is among the most widespread sexually transmitted infections in the UK, followed closely by gonorrhoea. It’s possible to have either infection without showing any symptoms at all, making regular testing essential for your sexual health.
